In September 2018, California Code of Regulations Title 17, Division 1, Chapter 4 changed California immunization requirements for students entering TK/Kinder, 7th grade advancement and Tk/Kinder-12th grade new admission or transfers in public and private schools.  Changes to California school immunization requirement will become effective starting July 1, 2019 per California Code of Regulations Title 17, Division 1, Chapter 4 (2018, September).
 
Starting in the 2019-2020 school year, the changes include, but are not limited to: 

• Requiring 2 (rather than 1) doses of chickenpox (varicella) vaccine at 

TK/Kindergarten entry 
7th grade advancement 
TK/K-12  new admission or transfer 

• Requiring 2 MMR doses and 3 Hepatitis B vaccine doses at admission or transfer more uniformly throughout TK/K-12 (age restrictions are removed) 
• Medical exemptions for new admissions may be signed only by a California-licensed MD/DO 
• Each temporary medical exemption may be issued for no more than 12 months. 

It is important that you begin now, to ensure your child gets their vaccination and to avoid appointment delays.  
 
Getting them up to date now will protect against vaccine preventable disease, and ensure that they will not be excluded from school and to ensure class placement.  
 
Remember to ask your physician about other vaccines your child may need, and bring your child’s yellow immunization card to the visit. Please return a copy of ALL up to date immunizations to your child’s school, prior to the beginning of the next school year.
 
No students will be allowed to attend school without up to date immunizations.
